Researchers Discover Bats Have A 'Greater Vocal Range Than Mariah Carey'

Researchers have found that bats can growl like death metal vocalists and have vocal ranges that rival Mariah Carey.

In contrast to the three octaves that humans generally have, their "voices" actually have seven. The vocal ranges of artists like Mariah Carey and Prince are between four and five, which bats can easily surpass.

"Bats can make low-frequency calls, using their so-called 'false vocal folds' - like human death metal singers do," says Professor Coen Elemans from the University of Southern Denmark, where the study took place.
