Carrie Underwood said sheâs âhonored to have been askedâ to perform at President-elect Donald Trumpâs inauguration this month.
Underwood said in a statement to news outlets on Monday (January 13): âI love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.â
The American Idol star, who is returning to the show as a judge 20 years after she won the competition in 2005, was confirmed as an Inauguration Day performer on Monday morning. Political reporter Matthew Foldi shard a photo of the program on X, formerly Twitter, confirming Underwood's performance. Trumpâs transition team also confirmed the information to Axios, the outlet reported.
Underwood is set to perform âAmerica the Beautifulâ alongside the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The inauguration ceremony will take place on Monday, January 20. Sheâll take the stage after J.D. Vanceâs Vice Presidential Oath of Office, and before Trumpâs Presidential Oath of Office.
