Shania Twain posted a throwback photo to the first time she performed at a festival, reflecting on her beginnings now that she’s one of country music’s biggest icons.

The Northern Lights Festival, hailed as “Canada’s longest consecutively running music festival,” is kicking off its 50th anniversary celebration on Thursday (July 7) and running through the weekend. Twain performed in 1976, donning an outfit her grandmother made, along with her handmade moccasins. She remembered taking the stage “with a bunch of adults,” staring into the “huge audience.” Though she recalls feeling intimidated at the time, the “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” singer is proud of her younger self. She captioned a few throwback photos:

@nlfb_festival, 1976 - My first ever festival! I was a little girl, with an outfit made by my grandma and handmade moccasins… on a big stage with a bunch of adults and a huge audience watching me... and a guitar that was bigger than me!! 😂 Looking back, that was a really intimidating environment to be in and I'm really proud of that little kid for facing my fears and braving it out - little did I know it would be a running theme in my career! Congratulations to Northern Lights Festival on 50 years ❤️ Fond memories from my beginnings.”
